In the business of fire

graphite & eucalyptus charcoal on tracing paper and rice paper
A series of portraits of scorched forest stumps, mainly eucalyptus trees. As a memorial wall of waves formed in their bark, in supple opposition to the visual of live eucalyptus trees peeling, coming off in long, thin strips, once they become a bit older. A kind of eulogy I was planning on doing only for myself, following this scarring on their bodies; I felt portraiture as fitting, as well as humanising, especially in a context of alteration, systematic burning and loss.
